World Turtle Day

Friday, May 24, 2019

Today was a perfect day to learn about the world’s most beloved reptile. Turtles are known as some of the world’s oldest reptiles. Some spend their time living on land, while others hardly ever leave the sea. Children and parents spent the day at Noccalula Falls Park to visit and learn about turtles and what we can do to help them thrive and survive.

Educational booths and exhibits were set up around the park for visitors to enjoy. Goldie is a tortoise that has made hundreds of friends since living at Noccalula. Event Supervisor, Janet Tarrance says Goldie loves being the center of attention and putting a smile on children’s faces.

George Cline, a Biology Professor at Jacksonville State University, brought several students to share information about the reptiles that most people don’t know about. Everyone is encouraged to visit Noccalula Park this summer and visit Goldie the tortoise.
