Author Honors Alabamian Holocaust Survivor


An important piece of history was the topic of discussion today the Public Library of Anniston and Calhoun County. A story was revealed on how an Alabamian survived the Holocaust. 94-year-old Max Steinmetz is a survivor of the Holocaust who currently lives in Birmingham. The book titled Determined to Survive is about Steinmetz and how he survived the horrors of the Holocaust.

Amy McDonald, Author of Determined to Survive, traveled to Europe and Germany to get a better understanding of Steinmetz’s story. McDonald shares why she believes it’s important for the survivor’s stories to be told. McDonald also teaches history to high school students, and this book has helped many students understand this piece of history a little better.
