Today might not have been perfect weather-wise, but, for 45 Veterans, it was perfect fishing weather. Residents living at the Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home spent the majority of their day out on calm waters, fishing.
For the third consecutive year, America’s First Credit Union teamed up with Woods Surfside Marina and Sylacauga Marine and ATV to continue making this event possible. Jerry Woods began taking Veterans out for a day of fishing and since his passing, his son-in-law, Mark Hildebrant, made a promise to continue what Wood started.
After the Veterans returned back to shore, a lakeside cookout on Logan Martin Lake had been prepared. Senior Vice President Phil Boozer says this is an event he and his team look forward to every year.
Volunteers tell TV24 that the Veterans truly enjoyed making new memories during today’s fishing, and many are already looking forward to the next event.
