Fear is no option for thrill-seekers who are expected to participate in this year’s Barbarian Challenge. More than 1,000 participants have already registered for the eighth annual extreme competition that is scheduled to take place this Saturday at Noccalula Falls Park. The six-mile obstacle course is specifically designed for those who aren’t afraid of getting muddy, wet, and pushed past their limits.
The course includes more than 20 natural and human-made obstacles that take you into Black Creek Gorge and up close to the Noccalula Falls. In addition to the race, there will be music and food vendors selling barbarian-inspired food. Noccalula Falls Park Supervisor and Barbarian Race Director Christina Richardson says this is a family event you don’t want to miss.
Richard says that the smallest barbarians can participate in the Kid’s Barbarian Challenge competition sponsored by The Factory. The race is open to kids ages 5 to 12 and will feature 10 to 15 obstacles over a one-mile course. Once all competitors cross the finish line, they will receive medals based on overall fastest time.
