Anniston Library Hosts Summer Reading Program

Summer Reading Programs for children are in full swing across east Alabama. The Anniston Public Library’s program is called A Universe of Stories. Today, the library invited guest readers for an event called “Take Me Out to the Library.”

We spoke with a guest reader from JSU’s Houston Cole Library about the importance of these summer reading programs. Kim Westbrooks told us that reading is crucial to building vocabulary in children and that programs such as these also help battle what is known as the “summer slide” for school-aged children.

The Universe of Stories at the Anniston Public Library will continue throughout this month as well as July. You can visit the library’s website or stop by for more information.
