Bunks Across America Surpasses Bed-Building Goal
A non-profit organization set out to break a Guinness Book World Record by building beds for children over the weekend. In addition to breaking the record, more children will now have beds to sleep on at night. Sleep in Heavenly Peace held its first “Bunks Across America” bed-building event over the weekend throughout the country.
The Gadsden Chapter gathered more than 100 volunteers at the Lowe’s parking lot to build more than 40 beds for kids in the area. With 32 children currently on the waiting list to receive beds, the chapter president says he’s overwhelmed at the amount of generosity and support given to ensure these kids will now get a good night’s rest.
Volunteers were asked to show up to begin building beds at 9 a.m. on Saturday, and by 11 a.m., volunteers had built more than half of the beds needed.
During this nationwide build on Saturday, chapters all around the country built a total of more than 5,300 beds with help from more than 8,500 volunteers. The Goodmans are planning the next bed build during the month of July. For more information, visit Sleep in Heavenly Peace-Gadsden on Facebook.
