The Springville Fire Department has released the name of the firefighter-paramedic who died Monday morning during off-site training.
35-year old Jared Echols was training outside of the Anniston Fire Training Center when he collapsed from heat stroke and went into cardiac arrest. He was taken to Regional Medical Center where he died. Echols began his fire service career as a volunteer firefighter at the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department in 2015 and was hired to begin his service as a student firefighter of the Alabama Fire College in January of this year. Springville Fire Chief Richard Harvey fought back tears as he spoke of the young man loved by so many.
There will be no public visitation for Echols, but the public is asked in lieu of flowers to make donations in Jared’s memory to The Church at Bradford Road at P.O. Box 229 Springville, Alabama 35146. You may also make donations in Echols’ name to the Springville Fire Department at P.O. Box 919, Springville, Alabama 35146. Following a private family funeral Friday, there will be a processional of fire and emergency vehicles from Springville High School to Springville Fire Station Number 1 where there will be a wreath laying in Echols’ memory.
