City Votes to Silence Outdoor Warning Sirens in Ashville
The City of Ashville recently made the decision to no longer use outdoor sirens to send out emergency alerts. According to Ashville Mayor Derrick Mostella, the technology is outdated, and the sirens are not a reliable way to receive notifications in the case of an emergency.
Only a small portion of residents could hear the sirens and many lives have been lost because they only relied on them. Mayor Mostella wants residents to use weather radios or download a reliable weather app on your mobile device in order to receive alerts.
