Active Threat Response Training at Golden Springs Elementary

Even when officers are off duty, they’re oftentimes still “protecting and serving” our community one way or another. Today, officers with the Anniston Police Department spent their day off preparing for potential threats in our community.

Officers went through a series of active threat scenarios at Golden Springs Elementary School while students are out on summer break. Lieutenant Brett Lloyd says typical training teaches groups of at least two officers on how to respond to an active threat, but today, a new method has been added. Lieutenant Lloyd says the majority of the time, one officer is the first to respond to a scene. And if there is an active shooter or threat inside the building, that officer needs to be trained on how to effectively react.

Lieutenant Brett says although officers are training for extreme situations, he hopes they never have to use it.
