PEEHIP Lawsuit Refund
Alabama teachers and other state education employees and retirees are a step closer to receiving a refund from their insurance provider. The Alabama Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Alabama Teachers Associations in regards to the lawsuit against the Public Education Employees Health Insurance Plan.
In 2016, PEEHIP made a decision to increase premiums and spousal charges after employees began receiving a 4% pay raise. Plaintiff’s claimed PEEHIP officials approved the changes behind closed doors which violated the state’s open meetings act.
PEEHIP has been ordered to refund nearly $100 million to state education employees and retirees. A Montgomery County judge has now approved a plan to send the reimbursements by July 31st.
