Centre Man Arrested for DUI and Promoting Prison Contraband

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, 39-year-old Michael Brown of Centre was arrested during Independence holiday weekend for Driving Under the Influence and Promoting Prison Contraband. While inmates were erecting flags on Highway 411, Brown was seen throwing cigarettes out his vehicle to the inmates.

When Brown’s vehicle was pulled over, he told authorities that he knew inmates couldn’t have tobacco in jail but figured it would be a good idea to give it to them to celebrate the holiday. Brown was arrested and taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center.
