Public Involvement Meeting to be Held Regarding Highway 431 Safety in Alexandria
A busy intersection on highway 431 in Calhoun County has residents fearing for drivers’ safety and our Congressional Representative, Mike Rogers, calling for a community wide meeting with the Alabama Department of Transportation. Residents living in the Alexandria community are concerned with the number of accidents that have happened within recent years between milepost 237 and 240.
According to Alabama State Trooper Jimmy Harrell, there were more than 200 accidents within the three mile radius between the years of 2013 and 2017. The intersection of Gladden Lane East and West is believed to be one of the busiest intersections along Highway 431, which is not controlled by traffic lights. A public involvement meeting has been arranged with ALDOT and residents are hoping to find a solution.
Residents living near the area and drivers who travel on Highway 431 are encouraged to attend the public involvement meeting to voice their opinions on how ALDOT can improve safety in the area.
The meeting is scheduled to be held on Thursday, at the Alexandria Community Center from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. During the meeting the public will have an opportunity to review maps, ask questions, and discuss the study with representatives, project designers, and ALDOT staff.
