Murder Arrest in Store Clerk Death in Sylacauga

Nearly a year after a Talladega County woman was murdered while working her shift at a convenience store, the man investigators believe is responsible for her death, is in custody. The Sylacauga Police Department has made an arrest in the murder of Melissa McDonald. Carlos Brooks is charged with murder and is being held in the Talladega County Jail without bond.

Authorities took Brooks into custody Tuesday night at a relative’s home in Alexander City. Investigators believe Brooks shot and killed McDonald at the AOC Texaco service station located on Highway 21 in Sylacauga on August 30, 2018. Investigators originally said although McDonald was working at the time of her murder, they did not believe the murder happened during a robbery.
