Oxford baseball star Trey Higgins has made a college decision. On Friday, the rising junior announced on social media that he is committed to play at Mississippi State. Higgins led the Jackets to a 21-11 record with an area title and berth in the Class 6A playoffs. He held a .350 batting average with five homeruns and 25 stolen bases.
By choosing the Bulldogs, Higgins is set to join one of the premier programs in the nation. The Bulldogs finished 52-15 last season under new coach Chris Lemonis. The team claimed their fourth straight regional championship and made a second consecutive appearance in the College World Series.
Before he suits up in Starkville he will play his junior season both on the diamond and the gridiron. Higgins plays quarterback for the Yellow Jackets and the team has a lot of buzz entering the 2019 season. Oxford enters the first year under new head coach KeithKeith Etheredge and Higgins says he likes how the team has gelled this offseason. Oxford opens the season Friday, August 23rd against Munford.
