The Fred’s discount store located in Alexandria is one of 12 across Alabama scheduled to close this year. The company announced plans to close an additional 129 stores nationwide. The discount store chain in April announced the closure of 159 locations nationwide.
Last week, the chain used its website to promote store closing sales at additional locations including the one in Alexandria. Company officials said the closures are the result of efforts to repay debt and diversify its product selection at remaining stores. Fred’s will have an estimated 80 retail stores and 166 pharmacies standing following its store closures.
