Wednesday, July 17, 2019

Alabama is one of five southeastern states participating in a joint traffic safety campaign over the next week. Operation Southern Shield is a collaboration between law enforcement officers in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

While speeding is the main focus of the campaign, officers are also focusing on seat belt usage and distracted driving. During last year’s campaign, Alabama officers issued more than 14,000 citations, 36% of which were for speeding.
