Piedmont Smart Grid Plans
The city of Piedmont is one step closer to implementing the use of a smart grid for its electrical department. The council this week agreed to transfer $200,000 to an account for the project in addition to the more than $200,000 the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority has already committed.
According to the city’s electric supervisor, Casey Ponder, a smart grid would allow utility workers to remotely read meters and more accurately track usage, which would result in lower bills for customers.
