State of the Cities of Calhoun County

Right now, a look at how mayors from seven cities across Calhoun County spent their morning sharing information with each other as well as with the public. The Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce hosts this annual State of the Cities. Leaders from Anniston, Hobson City, Jacksonville, Ohatchee, Oxford, Piedmont, and Weaver were on hand today.

They talked about economic development and other projects, both past and future. Weaver Mayor Wayne Willis said the area is fortunate to have a group who work so well together for the collective good of the region.

During the State of the Cities address, Willis revealed that his goal for Weaver in 2020 is to build a splash pad at the city park. The estimated cost of the new splash pad is $70,000. Willis plans to ask for private donations to pay for the park project, which is conveniently located right off the Chief Ladiga Trail.

Anniston Mayor Jack Draper also talked about capitalizing on the Ladiga Trail. He said that he anticipates work on the final phase to extend the bike trail into downtown in early 2020.
