One Man Dead After Cleburne County Standoff

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and others are still working to uncover details surrounding a nine-hour standoff that resulted in the death of a man in Cleburne County on Monday. WEIS Radio reports that ALEA and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office are being brought in as outside agencies to investigate standard procedure that lead to the officer involved shooting. Ranburne Police were called to a home for a possible suicide, and when they arrived, shots were fired by the gunman from inside the home.

During the stand-off the man fired multiple shots at officers. Eventually, law enforcement released tear gas into the home while instructing the man to come out unarmed. The gunman came out with a weapon pointed at officers. An officer fired one round at the gunman, killing him.

His name has yet to be released.
