A symbolic ceremony took place at the Anniston Army Depot honoring the outgoing commander after a successful command while welcoming the incoming commander. The Change of Command Ceremony is a time-honored tradition where soldiers, civilian employees, family and friends gathered for the ceremonial passing of the organization colors.
Outgoing Commander, Colonel Joel Warhurst, passed colors and responsibilities to the incoming Commander, Colonel Marvin Walker. Colonel Warhurst has been at the depot for more than two years and now plans to retire and live in Anniston with his family. The outgoing Commander says he’s proud of everything that has been accomplished at the Anniston Army Depot.
Colonel Walker has been in the Army for more than 20 years and has served in Kuwait, Iraq, Korea, and in other parts of the world. Out of all the organizations he’s been around, Colonel Walker says there is no organization like the Anniston Army Depot. A Mobile native, Colonel Walker says he’s always wanted to return to his home state and being able to do so while still serving his country, is a dream come true.
