Today was a bitter-sweet day for alumni and students at Jacksonville State as the three month demolition process has begun on a building completely destroyed by the March 19th tornado. Before crews started the demolition process to Merrill Hall, the former School of Business and Industry building, a short ceremony was held to give faculty, staff, alumni, and students the last opportunity to say goodbye to the building that has been grounded on JSU’s campus for nearly 50 years.
Merrill Hall was one of the buildings hardest hit on the campus by the tornado and President Beehler says he’s happy that the university can finally continue forward with the rebuilding process.
The university’s Director of Capital Planning and Facilities says Merrill Hall will no longer be a safety concern.
President Beehler says the new business building is expected to be completed in January of 2021.
