Success Academy Program Revived by Donations

A program has been revived just in time for the school year that will provide at risk youth an opportunity to achieve academically and prevent them from being committed to the Department of Youth Services Custody. Alabama State House Representatives KL Brown and Randy Wood donated $5,000 each towards the Success Academy in an effort to start the program back up for the school year.

Through a partnership with the Calhoun County Juvenile Court, at risk youth will be referred to the Success Academy provided they have no prior history of sexual offenses, drug or alcohol offenses, and simple first time assaults. The goal of the Success Academy is to provide educational and therapeutic safety nets to prevent juvenile offenders from being removed from their homes through DYS.

Judge Peggy Lacher says this diversion program has been very successful in the past. Judge Lacher also says this program also provides support and services for parents. Calhoun County is currently the only county that offers the Success Academy to at risk youth ages 13 through 18.
