CDC FDA Issues New Warning on Pig Ear Treats

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention wants pet owners to know that not all treats are good for your dogs. Owners who give their dog pig ear treats should stop immediately due to an ongoing salmonella outbreak.

Public health officials have been investigating a multi-state outbreak of human salmonella infection connected to contact with pig ear treats. Retailers have also been advised to stop selling them as officials fear that people could get sick from touching the treats.

According to the CDC, over the past month, more than 100 people in 33 states, including Alabama, have gotten salmonella and dozens had to be hospitalized. So far, there have been two voluntary recalls after products tested positive for the bacteria.
