Can you imagine your packages being delivered right to your front door by a flying device? Well, there’s a possibility that could be a reality if Amazon has its way. The Federal Aviation Administration published a petition from the online retailer that requests approval to operate its drone to fly packages to customers in 30 minutes or less.
Amazon also wants to be exempt from drone-specific rules, one which requires drones to only be operated when an operator can see it. The company will only fly during the day, no more than 15 nautical miles round trip and with packages weighing 5lbs or less. The FAA wants to hear comments from the public on the petition.
