Families from Oxford to Gadsden were invited to Jacksonville State University over the weekend to meet players from the football team and receive supplies for the school year. The women of Alpha Omicron Pi along with the JSU football team partnered together in order to collect school supplies items for children in need.
More than 216 backpacks were filled with items like notebooks, pencils, folders, and more. JSU students partner together every year to ensure students are able to get through the school year without having to worry where their supplies will come from.
Philanthropy Chair Taylor Beckham says this event proves that when a community combines forces to work together, good things happen. Beckham says the leftover backpacks will be taken to local schools and given away to students.
