Grants Awarded to State to Assist with Opioid Addiction Issues

The US Department of Health and Human Services recently announced grants in the amount of $6.3 million will be awarded to the state to help fight opioid addiction. The grants will help fund community health centers and rural groups combating the sometimes deadly painkillers. The money will also go towards schools working to expand and improve access to substance abuse treatment and mental health services.

In 2017, federal health authorities reported more than 70,000 drug overdoses which equals out to 21.7 per 100,000 people.

The grants awarded to the state are a part of a nationwide program to help fight with the government calls a crisis.
