Lawsuit Brought Against Sheraton Hotel of Atlanta as Result of Recent Legionella Outbreak
An Atlanta hotel is being sued after it was tied to the largest Legionnaires disease outbreak in the state. Attorneys in Georgia have filed the first lawsuit against the Sheraton with claims that the hotel was negligent in operating and maintaining the water system resulting in the exposure of potentially fatal levels of the legionella bacteria. The bacteria is a serious type of pneumonia.
One person has died and 11 other cases have been confirmed after staying or visiting the hotel between July 12th and 15th. There are also 63 probable cases. The Atlanta hotel has since been closed and won’t reopen until more test results are in.
