More changes are coming to the city as the Gadsden Airport Authority recently accepted a $1 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. The grant was awarded for necessary improvements to airfield operations at the Northeast Alabama Regional Airport.
Some of those improvements include the rehabilitation of the taxiway to the main runway and improvements to the drainage area. The airport supports military and general aviation in addition to vital industrial recruitment and development activities.
Mayor Guyton says the airport authority will match the grant by 5%, resulting in a big impact on the area at limited cost to its residents. Guyton says the ongoing leadership by the Airport Authority’s Board of Directors has led to the ability to win competitive grants to ensure the long term success of the airport and Gadsden’s future.
