A woman is recovering after surviving her SUV rolling down an embankment on the Eastern Bypass in Anniston and then waiting for 17 hours to get help. 32-year-old Ashley Johnson was traveling on the bypass Tuesday evening when she lost control of her vehicle while dodging a deer. Johnson was thrown from the SUV as it landed at the bottom of the embankment near Veterans Memorial Parkway.
She estimates it took her four hours to crawl to her vehicle to try and locate her phone to call for help. Johnson’s phone was dead, forcing her to wait inside the SUV overnight until it charged as she was able to dial 911 and guide them to her location. According to Johnson’s mother, she is recovering from two-punctured lungs, a dislocated hip, and multiple cuts and bruises.
