Hobson City Founders Day Heritage Festival
The oldest black municipality in the state of Alabama, located in Calhoun County, turns 120 years today. And to celebrate this historic town, a reunion and symbolic unveiling will be held for the entire county to participate in.
The Town of Hobson City has used this week to celebrate many things, including its history, growth and development, and future plans for the historic town. As the weekend approaches, Hobson City Mayor, Alberta McCrory shares why this year’s celebration is so important for the community.
Mayor McCrory says that the street renaming is also in memory of Atkinson’s son, Alfonza, who was a former dean of Tuskegee University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health. The town will also host its annual Hobson City Reunion on Saturday at J.R. Striplin Park from 10am until 8pm. There will be special performances, games, food, and vendors. Everyone is invited to attend.
