JSU Football Finishes Fall Camp, Ranked Sixth In AFCA Preseason Poll

The second of the two major preseason polls was released on Monday and the AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25 has the Jacksonville State football team ranked sixth.

The ranking mirrors where JSU is in the STATS Preseason FCS Top 25, which was released two weeks prior. It marks the sixth-straight season that JSU has been ranked in the preseason Top 10.

It is the 74th-straight week that the Gamecocks have been in the polls, the third-longest active streak behind North Dakota State (120) and South Dakota State (92).

JSU has 62 returning letterwinners and 17 starters. Nine offensive starters return, while the defense brings back six and special teams two.

North Dakota State is the preseason favorite to win it all again. James Madison, who made it to the second round of the FCS playoffs in 2018, comes in at the No. 2 spot. The Dukes are followed by last season's national runner-up, Eastern Washington at No. 3, South Dakota State at No. 4 and UC Davis at No. 5.

JSU will host Eastern Washington on Sept. 14, when the Eagles visit Burgess-Snow Field. It will be just the second meeting between the two schools after an Eagle win in Cheney, Washington in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Playoffs.

Southeast Missouri is the only other OVC team in the poll at No. 18, while Eastern Kentucky is listed among others receiving votes.
