Oxford Fire Department Host MDA Golf Tournament

Firefighters from several fire departments decided to lace up their golf shoes instead of their work boots today in order to participate in a fundraiser created to help transform the lives of people affected by neuromuscular diseases.

The Oxford Fire Department gathered 16 teams to compete in the first Muscular Dystrophy Association Golf Tournament held at the Cider Ridge golf course. The MDA is a non-profit organization that has committed more than $1 billion towards research, services, and care for people with neuromuscular diseases such as ALS. In the state alone, the MDA proves services and care to more than 13,000 families.

Captain Jonathan Roberts says he’s thankful for the 23 sponsors and community members that came together to make this event a success. Captain Roberts says in previous years, the department has held different raffle events and decided to do something different this year.

Teams that participated such as Anniston and Irondale fire departments are looking forward to next year’s event.
