USDA Says Washing Poultry Could Contaminate Other Food

There is often times confusion on whether or not it is safer to wash your chicken before you cook it. Well, the United States Department of Agriculture has the answer we’ve all been waiting for.

The USDA says you could actually get sick from washing you chicken, turkey or any other poultry. A study of the “Home Cooks” showed that washing your poultry ends up affecting the cleanliness of nearby foods. However, if you are one to believe your chicken should be washed before cooking, the USDA says to prepare other foods first, then your poultry.

After washing, wipe down anything the poultry touched and make sure you cook it to the right temperature.
