Volkswagen is recalling more than 600,000 cars in the US due to a problem that could let the cars roll away unexpectedly. The recall states that silicate can build up on a shift lever switch, allowing the key to be removed if the lever isn’t in park, causing the car to roll away.
Certain 2011-2018 Jettas, GTI’s, Golf’s, and Beetles are a part of this recall. These vehicles all have automatic transmissions, manual hand brakes, and keyless entry. Volkswagen has not been made aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue. Dealers will add a switch and circuit board to fix this problem.
The recall starts on October 1st.
