Hepatits A Outbreak

Thursday, August 29, 2019

The Alabama Department of Public Health reports that there have been 132 confirmed hepatitis A outbreak-related cases in at least 25 counties. Several of those cases have been confirmed in food workers. The Department of Public Health encourages all food service owners and managers to consider making hepatitis A vaccines a requirement in an effort to help stop this virus from spreading.

Hepatitis A is commonly spread because of poor hygiene and while food workers are not at a higher risk than other workers, some fall into high risk groups and would place customers at risk if they become infected.
