HS Football Awards Week 1


Week one of the high school football season was filled with dramatic victories, big rivalry matchups and key upsets. Here are the awards for week one:

KFC-Pigskin Roundup Team of the Week: Alexandria They Valley Cubs went on the road and upset No. 5 Jacksonville 21-14. Alexandria moves to 1-0 on the season with an open week this Friday. For their win, the entire team and coaching staff will enjoy a meal provided by KFC later this week and take home the team of the week t-shirts. Alexandria has won two of the last three matchups and three of the previous five in the rivalry.

RMC Player of the Week: Jett Smith - Walter Wellborn

The junior rushed for 280 yards on 12 carries and five touchdowns. He completed 2-3 passes for 66 yards and another touchdown. Smith scored on runs of 7, 21, 43, 44 and 81 yards and threw a 37 yard TD pass. Defensively, Smith had 11 tackles, 1 INT, 1 forced fumble & 1 fumble recovery.
