If you have traveled through Talladega County this week, you may have noticed some heavy smoke. The smoke is coming from a large wildfire in the Alpine community. According to the Alabama Forestry Commission, no homes or people in that area are in danger at this time.
Wildland firefighters have worked since Tuesday to contain the flames on about 500 acres of land. AFC personnel are also using bulldozers to help contain the fire. In the last seven days, 122 wildfires have burned more than 1,000 acres of land across the state.
