East Alabama BEST Robotics Competition

The East Alabama hub of BEST Robotics held its 2019 Kick-Off Day on Saturday in Gadsden. The event marks the beginning of this year’s BEST Robotics competition. Thirteen robotics teams from middle and high schools around the East Alabama Region are competing this year.

The teams on Saturday learned the competition theme, and witnessed the unveiling of this year’s game field. The theme is “Off the Grid” and the teams are tasked with building a robot that could help restore power in the aftermath of a storm or natural disaster.

Each team receives an identical kit of parts and supplies, and can only use the supplied materials to design, build, and operate their robot. The teams will have six weeks to complete their project before the big Game Day competition which will be held at JSU’s Pete Mathews Coliseum on Saturday, November 2.
