Alexandria High School Participates in Freedom to Read March

We as Americans often forget about the certain freedoms we have that don’t apply in other countries. This week, local high schoolers have been using their freedom to exercise their right by reading books.

Students at Alexandria High School celebrated National Banned Books Week by participating in a peaceful march that began at the school library and ended near the front office where they quietly read books that have been banned in other countries. Books are essential to learning and SGA President, Abby Bowers says she wants other students to not take it for granted.

The high school’s library has more than 6,000 hard copy books for students to read while other high schools mainly depend on digital catalogs. Caleb Woods is an 11th grader who believes that there is power and knowledge in every book.
