Gadsden Lawyer and His Wife Charged with Theft by Deception
A Gadsden lawyer and his wife are behind bars in the Etowah County Jail after being charged with first degree Theft by Deception. According to WEIS Radio, John McCord and his wife, Susan are being accused of stealing more than $3,000 from a client. John McCord represented a client in a divorce custody case and his wife served as his administrative assistant.
During that case, the McCords allegedly told the client that he was the subject of a criminal investigation by the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office and an additional retainer fee was needed in order for him to be represented during the investigation. The client filed a police report and later learned that he was not under investigation by the district attorney’s office. The McCords were arrested and later released on $5,000 bond each.
