Etowah High School Conduct Active Shooter Training

Wednesday, October 9, 2019

The Attalla Police Department partnered with Attalla City Schools Board of Education to conduct an active shooter drill at Etowah High School today. Students, teachers, officers, and medics all participated in the practice drill. On an average school day, the school resource officer is the only law enforcement personnel present during school hours and Attalla Police Chief Dennis Walker says it is important that SRO’s know what to do in the event of an active shooter until help arrives.

Walker says this was the first time the department performed an active shooter drill with students and teachers in place so they too can practice what to do if a gunman ever opened fire on campus. Superintendent Jeff Colegrove says this was an event that took two months to orchestrate but, he hopes students, teachers, and law enforcement officers never have to use the techniques they learned today.
