National Fire Prevention Week

In the act of a fire, do you and your loved ones have an emergency escape plan? If your answer is no, then you are encouraged to take advantage of National Fire Prevention Week and create a plan and practice it.

This year’s theme for National Fire Prevention Week is “Not all every hero wears a cape. Plan and Practice your Escape.” Firefighters with the Anniston Fire Department wants to encourage its residents to have family discussions this week about what to do in a real fire situation.

During the discussion, everyone should learn and familiarize themselves on ways to escape from each room of the house. Lieutenant Keith Day has been with the fire department for 16 years and he says residents should also take this week to ensure all smoke alarms inside your homes are working correctly.

Lieutenant Days shares why he believes it’s so important for families to have a routine emergency escape plan. For more information on Fire Prevention Week, visit the Anniston Fire Department’s Facebook page.
