First African-American Mayor Elected in Talladega
29-year-old Timothy Ragland of Talladega will go down in history as the City of Talladega first African-American Mayor. Ragland went on to defeat incumbent Jerry Cooper in a run-off election after the initial August election was too close to call.
Ragland graduated from Talladega High in 2009 where he went on to serve eight years in the Army Reserve. The mayor-elect is also a third year law student at Jones School of Law in Montgomery. Ragland will officially take office November 4th.
