Ohatchee Man Dead After High Speed Chase in Calhoun County

An Ohatchee man who led a deputy on a chase died when he crashed his vehicle. According to Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade, a deputy was responding to a domestic violence call Wednesday evening on Hellamanard Road in Ohatchee involving Jackie Blackburn and a family member. Deputies had already been called to this same address two times, but Blackburn left before they arrived. While deputies were at the home for the third time, Blackburn returned, but attempted to get away from them in his vehicle.

During the chase, Blackburn drove over a set of railroad tracks that caused him to crash the vehicle. Deputies began performing first aid to Blackburn until paramedics arrived to take him to Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the incident.
