Investigators with the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office have two people in custody who are believed to be responsible for the death of an Etowah County man who has been missing since September. According to Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton, skeletal remains were found by cadaver dogs near Bristow Cove Road. One of those bones contained a surgical steel plate that is believed to belong to Johnny Lee Rhodes.
On Monday, investigators were called out to a home on the 4400 block of Bristow Cove Road after a resident reported that a dog may have brought a human bone onto their property. Investigators combed through a nearby wooded area where they recovered a human skull, several long bones, a breastplate, and a cell phone - all believed to belong to Rhodes. The sheriff’s office has yet to release the names of the suspects as the incident is still under investigation.
