JSU Announces New Dining Hall and Campus Security Plans
More changes are coming to Jacksonville State University as the Board of Trustees approved a new food services contract that includes the construction of a new multi-million dollar dining hall. The board approved its food services renewal contract with Sodexo that will include a $26 million dining hall construction project. The contract also includes a $275 per semester meal plan that will be required for commuter students.
The 63,000 square foot dining hall will be built between Forney Avenue and Trustee Circle. It will include a Dunkin Donuts and a convenience-like store that will offer snack options. In addition to a large dining room, the two-story building will also have a student lounge, conference rooms, and outdoor terraces. There is no word on when the construction for this new facility will begin.
The university has also announced a grant in the amount of $300,000 from the US Department of Justice. This grant will be used over the course of three years to enhance campus safety, victim safety, and to create mandated student training in prevention education.
