Etowah County Welcomes New CEO and COO to Boys and Girls Club
The Boys and Girls Club of Gadsden/Etowah Board of Directors has hired a new chief executive director.
Savannah Miles, a Gadsden native, accepted the Chief Executive Officer position earlier this month. Miles graduated from Gadsden City High School where she was valedictorian in 2014 and went to further her education at Harvard University. There she earned a bachelor’s degree in social studies with a focus on race and class in the rural south. As the new CEO, she will focus on compliance, fundraising, maintaining community relationships, and human resources. Miles says she is excited to begin looking outward and expanding the program into new schools, and other parts of the community.
Akiba Canady has been promoted to the role of Chief of Operations where she will be responsible for the direction of the William Thomas Dawson Unit of the Boys and Girls Club. She will also interface with members and their families while implementing academics, fine arts, athletic and character-building programs. Derrick Austin, Chairman of the board, says they are excited for both Miles and Canady to be a part of the Boys and Girls Club team.
