Temporary Inmate Housing Agreement Between St. Clair and Calhoun Counties

The temporary closure of the Saint Clair County Jail in Pell City has resulted in many inmates being transferred to Calhoun County. Earlier this month, the Saint Clair County Jail was forced to temporarily close its facility in Pell City for necessary repairs. All inmates and staff members have evacuated the facility until all issues regarding the aged building are resolved. More than 30 inmates have been transferred to the Calhoun County Jail under an agreement between the counties. County Commissioners agreed on a payment of $40 a day to house those inmates. The funds collected will go towards making improvements to the Calhoun County Jail.Sheriff Wade says there is no current timeline for how long the inmates will be under his care.
