The Gadsden-Etowah Patriots Association brings home an icon of the Vietnam war. Thanks for joining us, I’m Carl Brady. The association traveled across the country to Washington state in order to bring a Huey Helicopter to Gadsden. The association says it will place the helicopter on display by the Vietnam Veteran's Monument at Noccalula Falls. A federal grand jury has indicted a man from Oxford and three men from Talladega County. A statement released by the Department of Justice says Antoine Dorman of Oxford, Donterio Keith of Talladega, Logan Milam of Childersburg, and Michael Parker of Lincoln have all been indicted for illegal possession of a firearm by a felon. They face up to ten years in prison and as much as a $250,000 fine.
One of the suspects wanted for the Mars Shaved Ice robbery is behind bars. Cherokee County investigators believe that Erick Ransom is responsible for robbing the shaved ice store in Centre as well as the one in Gadsden. Centre Police say multiple law enforcement agencies have reported a string of robberies involving two to three men, including the two Mars robberies. Ransom is currently held in the Etowah County Detention Center on unrelated charges. Ransom faces extradition
Cherokee County Authorities made multiple drug arrests on Thursday. Darren Terry of Leesburg faces a possession and a paraphernalia charge. Kenneth Ayers faces a distribution of a controlled substance charge. Both are being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center. Lonnie Newsome, Amber Jennings, and Eula Newsome all face marijuana possession and paraphernalia charges.They were arrested and taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center, where all three have been released
Congressman Mike Rogers has scheduled a Town Hall in Oxford, but if you haven’t already gotten a ticket, you’ll have a hard time getting in. The town hall is set for next month with tickets becoming available this week. Within 24 hours, the tickets were all gone. Tickets were available online, and the website lists the Oxford town hall and one scheduled in Opelika on the same day as sold out. A high speed chase in Cherokee County ends with an arrest and a DUI. Johnathan Henderson of Fort Payne faces a DUI charge along with multiple violations from the chase. According to Leesburg Police, the chase began just after midnight Thursday night on Highway 273. The chase continued until Henderson hit spike strips deployed by Fort Payne Police on County Road 43 near Dogtown Road. Henderson is currently being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center.
A Sheriff’s Deputy is hospitalized after striking a bull in the road. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Hunter Atkins was responding to a call late Thursday night. While driving on highway 75 in Fyffe, he struck a large bull that stood in the highway. An ambulance took Atkins to a hospital for treatment, where he was treated and released. His K-9 partner was taken to a vet and is expected to be fine.
On Friday players and coaches in Talladega County met at the Superspeedway for its annual football media day. There is a lot of excitement and different storylines for all ten squads that play ball in the county. There are also a pair of new head coaches in Talladega's Ted Darby and Lincoln's Matt Zedaker. Sheriff Matthew Wade says Jeffrey Brisky and Rhimington Johnson of Anniston are wanted in connection with the deaths of Travis Frost and his grandson, Joshua Moody. The former owner of Cherokee Memory Gardens of Centre faces more charges in connection to the sale of pre-need burial plots. Authorities arrested John Usry of Centre and charged him with multiple counts of theft by deception. Usry was previously arrested for similar charges on July tenth. Centre Police Chief Investigator Randy Mayorga says there are more than 30 pending cases against Usry involving the sale of of the pre-need burial plots, markers, and grave-sites. Mayorga sa
