One man is dead after a head-on collision near Piedmont. According to State Troopers, Ryan Paris of Piedmont, died when the SUV he was driving hit a dump truck head-on. The crash occurred on Old Piedmont-Gadsden Highway. Paris was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was transported to Gadsden Regional Hospital for his injuries. Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash.
Rainbow City Police are trying to get stolen items back in the right hands. Police recovered the items over the past few weeks, and now ask for whoever might own them to come claim what’s theirs. The items include mostly tools, power tools, and some lawn and garden equipment. Captain Darron Walker says you’ll need the theft report in order to claim an item.
Rescuers pull a man from the bottom of Little River Falls. Park Rangers say a man washed over the falls and sustained major injuries. A helicopter from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency retrieved the man from the bottom of the canyon. He was taken to a hospital by helicopter. This is the fourth major incident at the falls since Memorial Day.
The town of Hobson City is hoping to secure grant money to repair the leaky Town Hall roof. In a meeting on Monday, the Town Council gave Mayor Alberta McCrory approval to seek an up to 50,000 dollar grant from the state. The Jacksonville City Council has voted unanimously to approve a contract with Coca-Cola. In their meeting Monday, the council agreed to move forward with the contract. It would provide four new scoreboards for the Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department. Two of the scoreboards are for softball fields, and two are for baseball fields. Jacksonville State University is not raising tuition, but some classes have new fees. The JSU board of trustees approved the price changes at their meeting today. The board approved eleven new fees for classes in the schools of health professions and wellness, the school of education, and the school of human services and social sciences. Two people are dead after a home invasion in eastern Calhoun County. Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade says intruders broke into a home on Rabbittown Road, where they shot and killed Travis Frost and his grandson Joshua Moody. Frost’s wife made a 911 call just after four AM Sunday to report that someone broke into their home. She hid in a bathroom and was unharmed. Alabama Officials are investigating the death of an inmate in a state prison. According to Saint Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell, correctional officers found Joseph Wood dead in his cell at the Saint Clair County Correctional Facility. Russell said there were indications of foul play. Wood’s body is being sent to the state forensics lab in Huntsville for an autopsy. Investigators are treating the death as a homicide.
Cherokee and Chattooga County authorities are on the hunt for a suspect after a kidnapping and robbery. The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office says two men robbed a man and kidnapped a woman near the Walker County line in Georgia. The men then left with the woman and crossed the state line into Cherokee County. Deputies found the vehicle involved and attempted to stop it.
